Two types of shea butter are used in our products: East African (Nilotica) Shea and West African (B. Parkii) Shea. East African shea is a softer, creamier, and smoother variety of shea, while West African shea is a firmer, thicker, and more solid type of shea. Shea butter is produced from the nut of a Shea (Karite) tree and is rich in vitamins A & E. It contains antioxidant, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe, nourish, moisturize and heal the skin. Additionally, it works well for all skin types, is baby safe and is believed to provide some relief for conditions like eczema, psoriasis, sunburn and rashes.
Mango Butter is derived from the rich natural fats of the mango seeds inside the pit of the mango fruit. It is a great emollient that nourishes the skin with vitamins A, C, & E, and several fatty acids including oleic acid, stearic acid, and linoleic acid. Combined, these compounds help boost elasticity, reduce appearance of wrinkles & stretch marks, brighten skin, balance its pigment, and soften both skin & hair. Mango butter is also a non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog the pores. It is known to help eliminate toxins, dirt, and impurities on the skin making it excellent for use on itchy, dry, or acne prone skin.
Beeswax provides a protective barrier between your skin and the environment, sealing in moisture without clogging the pores. It is rich in vitamin A, which supports cell reconstruction, and has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that are essential for healing chapped, dry skin. These attributes also make beeswax beneficial medicinally to help soothe and heal abrasions and skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea.
Coconut oil is derived from natural oils within the flesh of a coconut fruit. This ingredient is rich in medium chain fatty acids which possess antimicrobial properties as well as lauric acid. Together, these components can help treat acne, protect skin from harmful bacteria & free radicals, reduce inflammation, and increase collagen production.
Almond oil is produced through a pressing process in which the oils are extracted from the almond. It has long been used as an effective moisturizer and used to treat dry skin conditions, acne, and sun damage. The oil’s fatty acid content can help to dissolve excess oil on skin. Retinoids, minerals, and vitamins A & E join to reduce redness, improve skin tone, promote cell turnover, lighten dark areas, and reduce the appearance of scarring.
Grapeseed oil is produced as a by-product of making wine. After wine is made by pressing the grapes, grape seeds remain. The oil is then extracted through a process of pressing the seeds. Grapeseed oil is known to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties, along with high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins E & C. These properties combine to help improve skin elasticity, even skin tone (due to the antioxidant proanthocyanidin), soften the skin, protect it from damaging UV rays, and help to brighten skin. This oil is also a non-comedogenic and is more lightweight than some other oils making it suitable for use on many skin types, including acne prone skin.
Avocado oil is produced by pressing the fruit of the avocado itself, as opposed to the pit. During this process, the oil from the avocado is separated out from the fleshy part of the fruit. It contains a high percentage of vitamins E, D & A, potassium, lecithin and other nutrients which work to nurture your skin. Avocado oil also contains oleic acid which promotes collagen production. This results in the growth of new skin, thereby aiding in the healing process. It is known to help remedy chapped, itchy, dry, or sunburned skin as well as eczema and psoriasis. Additionally, it is believed to reduce appearance of stretch marks, scars and minor wounds.
Like many other carrier oils, jojoba oil is also produced from the seed of the plant. It has anti-inflammatory properties which alleviate chaffed skin, reduce redness caused by dryness, and ease the symptoms of eczema or rosacea. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamin E and B-complex vitamins which help to repair & rejuvenate the skin. Additionally, jojoba oil produces wax esters which are very similar to the sebum our own skin naturally creates to protect itself and lock in moisture. As we age, our skin tends to decrease the production of sebum; jojoba oil will help deliver moisture most similar to your skins natural oils and help improve appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, or loose skin.
This oil is extracted from the fruits and seeds of the neem tree. It is rich in fatty acids such as palmitic, linoleic, and oleic acids which support healthy, nourished skin. Neem oil also contains compounds called flavonoids and polyphenols which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial qualities. It has been known to help a variety of skin issues including: acne, psoriasis, eczema, ringworm, and warts. Additionally, it is utilized to help heal minor wounds and fight some skin infections by preventing growth of certain strains of bacteria. Neem has anti-aging effects as well; the oil boosts production of procollagen and the protein elastin. This makes it an excellent oil to improve wrinkles, reduce redness, thicken the skin, and prevent moisture loss.
Evening primrose oil is made by cold pressing the seeds from the evening primrose wildflower. It contains high concentrations of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids which possess strong anti-inflammatory and healing properties. These attributes support the healing of acne & eczema, as well as a plethora of other bodily issues. When used topically and cosmetically, it can also help improve the skin’s elasticity, softness, moisture, firmness, and fatigue resistance. Additionally, due to its stearic acid content, is has cleansing properties which help eliminate dirt, excess sebum, and sweat from the skin & hair.
This oil is made by extracting the oil from the castor beans of the Ricinus communis plant. It is a great natural moisturizer as it is rich in ricinoleic acid (a monosaturated fatty acid) which acts as a humectant that prevents moisture loss. Castor oil is also anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal by nature; it is thought to stimulate tissue growth making it excellent for promoting the healing of wounds. In addition, this oil is widely known as a natural conditioner for the hair that moisturizes, eases dandruff, and promotes the health of hair follicles.
Aloe vera is produced by blending down the inner layers of the aloe leaf after peeling back the skin to produce a gel or liquid. It is an anti-inflammatory and contains antioxidants, enzymes, and Vitamins A & C. These properties help to treat burns, superficial acne, and dry skin. They also promote the production of new skin cells and brighten skin complexion. The natural enzymes it carries additionally work to exfoliate the skin making it softer and smoother.
Castille soap is made by saponifying natural oils. In the past, it was made primarily from olive oil, but can now also include coconut, walnut, castor, hemp and avocado oil. It gently cleanses without the toxins of other cleansers and is safe for sensitive skin. Also working well for oily, acne prone skin, castille soap removes excess oils while naturally hydrating the skin. Castille soap is often paired with other oils and ingredients to help boost its moisturizing benefits and nourishing properties.

They also contain compounds known as saponins which are natural cleansers & exfoliates that remove impurities that clog the pores. Oats work well with all skin types and are commonly used for sensitive, allergy prone, acne prone, or even eczema prone skin. Additionally, oats are rich in proteins and lipids, along with vitamin E, flavonoids, phenols and starches; together these elements assist in maintaining moisture and healing the skin.
Granulated brown sugar helps to exfoliate your skin and clear away any dead, dry particles creating smoother and softer skin. It also has anti-bacterial properties as well as glycolic acid which encourages brightening of the skin. Bentonite clays have been used for thousands of years both orally and topically. Rose clay is a mild & gentle clay containing kaolinite. It works wells with all skin types, including sensitive skin. This clay type is often used for its anti-aging properties; it enhances blood circulation which stimulates the production of both elastin and collagen. Purple Brazilian clay also helps to prevent skin from absorbing environmental contaminants & impurities and contains a high magnesium content which promotes healthy skin cells.

Indigo powder comes from an indigo shrub which is found in several places throughout the world. It's often used as a natural colorant in beauty & self-care products and has restorative properties believed to improve sunburn and dark spots. Also known as baking soda, this ingredient works as a mild exfoliate while also deeply cleansing thanks to its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal traits. These attributes, along with its ability to absorb excess oil, make it ideal for reducing acne and blackheads as well.
Dead sea salt is thought to be of the highest quality and works in a variety of ways to ease skin related discomfort. It helps to strengthen skin tissues, improve blood circulation, eliminate toxins, and balance the skin’s pH. Dead sea salt can also improve eczema or dry skin as it removes dead skin cells, hydrates the skin, and restores minerals (such as magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, and potassium). It is used to aid in relaxation and the easing sore muscles as well.
Epsom salt is known to soothe the skin, aiding with skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. When used in bathwater, it can soften rough & dry skin by exfoliating away dead skin cells. It also helps to relieve stress and release tension in the muscles.
Various dried flowers & herbs including lavender, marigold, rose, cornflower, blue pea flower and rosemary are used in our Botanical Bar Soap to add a light exfoliate and some natural beauty. In addition to exfoliating the skin, some dried flowers & herbs also benefit the skin by providing cleansing properties and delivering essential nutrients. Others assist by softening, firming, and moisturizing the skin.
